In August 2019, it was announced that Keerthy Suresh had signed on an untitled "mystery thriller" film to be produced by Karthik Subbaraj under his banner Stone Bench Films, and directed by debutant Eashvar Karthic.[5] The film, which was Stone Bench Films' third production venture,[6] was also produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Sudhan Sundaram and Jayaram under Passion Studios.[7] Principal photography began in September,[6] and the film was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu languages.[8] The title Penguin was announced on 17 October, Keerthy Suresh's birthday.[9] Principal photography wrapped up in November.[1] The film features Madhampatty Rangaraj and Lingaa in pivotal roles in addition to several newcomers; this was the first film in which Rangaraj was credited with the screen name Adhidev.[3]

The lm is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual with Malayalam dubbed version option, and it is set for an OTT release.
While Mohanlal sent his "Best Wishes" to the lm's team, Dhanush tweeted: "The extraordinary journey of a

Nani also took to Twitter and wrote: "Happy to launch the trailer of #Penguin.This looks very promising,

The crime thriller stars Keerthy as a pregnant mother who sets out on a dangerous and physically demanding
journey to unravel a mystery from her past and save her loved ones.
"'Penguin' has denitely been one of the most exciting and interesting projects I've worked on," said Keerthy.
"As a mother, my character is both gentle and caring, but also ercely determined. She's complex, but
authentic, and I think that will really strike a chord with audiences. I had a wonderful time working with the
incredibly talented Eashvar Karthic to bring the story to life. It will be great to see a lm in Tamil, Telugu that
will be appreciated by audiences around the world," she added.
"Penguin" is produced by Karthik Subbaraj and marks the directorial debut of Eashvar Karthic.
The lm streams on Amazon Prime Video from June 19.
